    Story of 316LVM

Regarding the 316LVM (S31673) rod and silk material ASTM F138 specifications were published in 1978, the ASTM F139 published in 1976 was the relevant specifications of 316LVM boards and belt materials. Correspondingly, in Europe, the brand of this material is W.NR 1.4441. In recent years, the European Union has gradually replaced 316LVM instead of 316L as surgical implants for stainless steel. Even some jewelry that directly contacts the human body, such as nasal rings and lip nails, has begun to use 316LVM to produce. Although in terms of cost, 316LVM is several times more than 316L of ordinary levels, but due to the difference in performance, the market has gradually accepted the new thing of S31673.

     

    The mainstream standards for stainless steel for surgical implants are ASTM F138 and ISO5832-1. In China, the GB 4234.1-2017 "Surgical Plant Metal Materials Part 1 forged Stainless Steel" formulated on the basis of ISO5832-1. Among the two standards of ASTM F138 and ISO5832-1, the chemical composition of 316LVM is basically the same, and it is just a slight difference in the composition of silicon elements. The ingredients of the industrial grade 316L are not as strict as the previous two, and therefore cannot present the excellent characteristics of surgical implantation of stainless steel. The lower P content makes 316LVM have better ductility, which allows 316LVM to face the cold craftsmanship more calmly. The maximum content of S elements is reduced from 0.030%of the industrial grade 316L to 0.010%of the implantation level, which can effectively improve the plot ratio of sulfide. Low silicon ingredients can provide better Austennic stability. High chromium content can have a positive effect on improving the corrosion resistance of materials, but at the same time, it will reduce the austenity stability of the material. The nickel content of 316LVM in the implantation level is higher than the industrial grade 316L, which ensures that the material has a complete Austenitic structure. The addition of copper elements is to effectively control the impurities in the smelting process. Molybdenum content and high chromium content ensure the carbon volume of the material ≥26, and the carbon equivalent ≥ 26 is also the unique feature of implanted stainless steel materials.
